HONOR FLIGHT NWO IS KEEPIN’ ‘EM FLYIN’ |
(Toledo, Ohio) Honor Flight Northwest Ohio continues its 2009 season on Wednesday, September 16th, with its third double flight to Washington, D.C. Two chartered jets will carry 55 WW II Veterans to the nation’s capital. This will be the 10th and 11th flight out of Grand Aire carrying our heroes to their memorials.
The flight manifest includes seven veterans age 90 or older with the oldest being 94. Two women will also be on board, both having served in the Navy. In addition to spending several hours at the World War II Memorial, the veterans will have an opportunity to visit The Korean Memorial, The Vietnam Memorial, The Marine Corps Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery for the Changing of the Guard at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Veterans will meet at the Grand Aire hanger of Toledo Express Airport at 6 a.m. for check-in, breakfast and orientation. The two ExpressJet charters (50-seat Embraer145) will depart at approximately 8:45 a.m. The return flight will bring the honored guests back to Grand Aire at approximately 9 p.m. for a welcome home celebration. Prior to breakfast, a check presentation will be done by Kingston Healthcare as the result of proceeds received from a golf outing done in June to benefit Honor Flight Northwest Ohio. Guardians will fly, at their own expense, for the privilege of accompanying these American heroes throughout the day and assisting with wheelchairs, oxygen or other special needs. If you are interested in knowing if a veteran from your area is on this flight, please contact Jim Gilmore for more information.
